Dupuytren Kontraktürü Ameliyatı ve Tedavisi - Doç. Dr. Burhan Özalp - İstanbul ve Diyarbakır Plastik ve Estetik Cerrahi

The hand has a unique anatomical structure. The “palmar fascia” on the palm is a tape-like fibrous structure, which enables the palm skin to adhere to its base. Dupuytren’s contracture can be described as the disease of this structure.

The disease manifests itself as tough knots in the palm. In later times, these tough structures become elongated and more apparent and cause bending of the fingers.

Although the cause of the disease is not clear, it is known that together with the familial transition, it is more common in people who receive repeated, small blows to hands at work. It is again more common in patients with diabetes (5% of patients have diabetes) and chronic alcohol consumers.

Similar conditions may be encountered in the genital and sole examinations of the patients with Dupuytren’s contracture.

The treatment is surgical and the bands that cause bending are cleaned. In neglected advanced cases, finger amputations may be required due to shortening of the vessel-nerve length and hardness in the joints due to bending.
